Cher's Son, Elijah Blue Allman, Faces Drug Addiction and Conservatorship

Published December 28, 2023

Cher has recently taken legal steps towards becoming the conservator of her son, Elijah Blue Allman, who has been grappling with drug addiction for many years. This move was initiated after a particularly concerning six months during which Allman resided at the Chateau Marmont, a historic hotel known for the tragic overdose of comedian John Belushi in 1982. Throughout his stay, hotel staff observed Allman looking disheveled and 'strung out,' which raised alarms about his wellbeing.

The Troubled Stay at Chateau Marmont

The Chateau Marmont staff witnessed Allman's deteriorating state, prompting them to contact Cher, concerned about his condition. He was frequently seen in a disordered state, giving the impression of someone living on the streets, which was worrisome enough for Cher to employ a caretaker in September to oversee his day-to-day needs.

In an unsettling incident, Allman was discovered lying motionless on the ground outside the hotel, leading to a subsequent intervention by Cher and, eventually, another round of rehabilitation treatment for him. These events signal Cher's continuous efforts to help her son combat his substance abuse and mental health issues.

Family Struggles and Legal Actions

The tensions within the family extend beyond Elijah's struggles. Cher's application for conservatorship is also a step to limit the influence of Allman’s estranged wife, Marieangela King, as Cher alleges that King's presence in his life has been detrimental, attributing to ongoing cycles of addiction and mental health crises.

Previously, King had made claims that Cher had orchestrated an attempt to kidnap Allman, which Cher emphatically denies. The complexity of the family dynamics is compounded by the couple’s divorce proceedings, revealing layers of conflict and challenges.

Cher's concern for her son is evident in her pursuit of conservatorship, aiming to manage his trust assets—as Allman is expected to receive inheritance from his late father, Greg Allman—and to facilitate his treatment process. Throughout these trials, Cher remains dedicated to supporting her son, despite their history of a strained relationship.

Elijah Blue Allman's Journey

Throughout his life, Allman has been open about his early introduction to drugs and the lack of familial support during his formative years. He has criticized the perceived lack of understanding and care from his famous parents, especially during his debilitating bout with Lyme disease.

Allman, a musician following in his parents' footsteps, has had his career overshadowed by his personal battles. Despite this, Cher strives to help her son, insisting that being a mother involves unconditional love and support through the darkest times.
