Digable Planets Delight Fans with Classic Hits at THING Festival 2023

Published December 4, 2023

In an age where vintage beats are revered as timeless classics, Digable Planets swooped into THING Festival 2023, leaving a mark with their old-school hip-hop finesse. After being off the center stage for some time, the group's recent performance in Port Townsend, Washington, demonstrates they still illuminate the genre with their original brilliance.

Rekindling Hip-Hop's Golden Era

Digable Planets' set at the festival was not just a mere performance, but a resurrection of the quintessential '90s hip-hop vibe. The 30-minute act featured mesmerizing renditions of their iconic tracks, including The May 4th Movement, Where I'm From, Jettin', and the crowd's favorite, Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat).

A Fusion of Talents On Stage

The group's lineup boasted extraordinary talent, accumulating into a spectacle of rap and instrumentation. Ishmael "Butterfly" Butler, Mariana "Ladybug Mecca" Vieira, and Craig "Doodlebug" Irving handled the vocals, while a band consisting of Thaddeus Turner on guitar, Gerald Turner on bass, Darrius Willrich on keyboard, Carlos Overall on saxophone, and Bongo Kassa Overall on drums complemented their lyrical flow with vibrant beats.
