Ed Sheeran Surprises Parents with a Private Tour of the Louvre Museum

Published February 29, 2024

In a heartwarming gesture of gratitude, celebrated musician Ed Sheeran organized a private three-hour tour of the famed Louvre museum in Paris for his parents and wife. This exclusive experience provided them with an intimate viewing of world-renowned artwork, including the iconic Mona Lisa, away from the usual throngs of tourists.

An Expression of Thanks

John Sheeran, Ed's father and a retired art curator, expressed his delight at the private museum tour during an interview meant to promote a fundraiser for the Ipswich Art Society’s Young Artists’ Fund. He called the visit an 'unforgettable experience' and a unique opportunity to appreciate the art intimately, especially the chance to study Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa up close without the usual crowd.

A Surprise in Paris

The private museum tour took place in 2021, coinciding with Ed Sheeran's performance at the Global Citizen Live event—a concert aimed at raising awareness for global issues such as poverty, climate change, and the need for widespread access to coronavirus vaccines. The Sheeran family was in Paris as John and Imogen, Ed's mother, went to witness their son perform an extraordinary set at the event. Following the performance, Ed surprised them further by arranging the private evening at the Louvre with his wife, Cherry.

A Family of Artists

John Sheeran also reminisced about another notable artistic encounter he shared with his family. He recounted a time when he and Imogen attended a service at Westminster Abbey that featured a full choir singing an anthem composed by their other son, Matthew Sheeran. The composition, commissioned for a special celebration, was inspired by an Italian Renaissance painting Matthew had seen at the Courtauld Galleries in London, lending a sense of 'full-circle' to the family's engagement with the arts.

Notable Mention

In recent developments unrelated to the family tour, it was reported that Rick Astley performed covers of popular songs including Ed Sheeran's 'Shape Of You' during a BBC Radio 2 Piano Room session. Additionally, Ed Sheeran has been named among the UK's top taxpayers, sharing the list with other prominent figures like author JK Rowling.
