Jean-Michel Jarre Celebrates Versailles with Mixed-Reality Concert

Published December 25, 2023

Legendary French composer and electronic music pioneer, Jean-Michel Jarre, is preparing to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the iconic Château de Versailles with a groundbreaking Christmas Day concert. Jarre, who has sold over 80 million albums worldwide and worked with artists such as Brian Eno and Hans Zimmer, continues to redefine the realms of electronic performances with his innovative approach, including five previous concerts each exceeding a million attendees. He notably shares the Guinness record for largest concert attendance with Rod Stewart for his 1997 performance in Moscow.

Mixing Reality with Tradition

On December 25, 2023, Jarre's newest venture will combine tradition and cutting-edge technology as he performs from within Versailles' Hall of Mirrors. The concert, integrating virtual and augmented reality, will feature a spectacle of visuals reminiscent of Tim Burton's films, the '80s iconic movie Tron, and Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast. Though in-person attendance is limited, the performance will reach global viewers via VR platform VRROOM, French television W9, French Radio RTL RADIO, and a subsequent YouTube stream worldwide.

Connecting with Audiences Virtually

Jarre plans to fully immerse himself in the event wearing a VR headset, engaging with attendees both on-site and online. He embraces the use of AI and digital components to enhance the creative process of his show, while optimizing the positive features of the virtual landscape.

A Career of Innovation

Jarre's career boasts numerous accolades, starting with the international success of his 1976 album Oxygène, and he continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Whether performing in historic locations like China post-Cultural Revolution or commemorating significant anniversaries such as Houston's and NASA's, his shows offer more than entertainment; they mark defining moments in music history. His latest album Oxymoreworks is yet another testament to his enduring influence in electronic music.
