Fifth Annual Humboldt Jewish Music and Culture Festival to Begin Sunday

The Humboldt Jewish Music and Culture Festival, hosted by Temple Beth El, launches its fifth year this Sunday evening, paving the way for an inspiring series of events aimed at celebrating Jewish heritage through music and storytelling. Attendees are in for a profound cultural experience that spans from mystical tales and Yiddish workshops to engaging dance parties and soulful concerts.

Rabbi Naomi Steinberg and Berel Alexander Present ‘The Angel’s Wings’

The inaugural event will feature Rabbi Naomi Steinberg alongside her son, Berel Alexander, showcasing ‘The Angel’s Wings: Music & Tales for the Soul’ at The Sanctuary in Arcata. This duo promises an evening of enchanting narratives coupled with melodic vocals, offering a glimpse into the ethereal aspects of Jewish tradition. Steinberg, with her contributions to various congregations and choral compositions, along with Alexander's pursuit in the singer/songwriter landscape, guarantees a performance steeped in both authenticity and creativity.

The festival continues with diverse workshops at Temple Beth El in Eureka, which are open to the general public. Activities range from learning ‘Yiddish Songs and Melodies of the Spring Holidays,’ to exploring ‘Yiddish Songs and Klezmer Melodies of Ukraine.’ Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to indulge in traditional foods and lively dance sessions, catered further by live music.

The subsequent day greets attendees with delectable treats and continues with the ‘Big Jewish Music Jam,’ inviting all musicians to partake in a communal vibrance of klezmer, Yiddish songs, and more.
