Modest Mouse Celebrates 'Good News For People Who Love Bad News' with 20th Anniversary Reissue

Published March 22, 2024

In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed album 'Good News For People Who Love Bad News', Modest Mouse reveals plans for a special reissue. This reissue is not just a nostalgic trip; it also includes a modern twist with eight additional remixes by celebrated artists such as Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT, Jacknife Lee, Dan the Automator, and Justin Raisen. These remixes breathe new life into favorite tracks from the original album.

New Remixes and Special Releases

Accompanying the announcement is a newly shared remix of 'Ocean Breathes Salty' by the group Poolside. The reissue will delight fans first with a digital expanded edition available on April 5, followed by a vinyl reissue on May 17. This special release is eagerly anticipated by followers of the band and collectors alike, with pre-orders already open.

Music Video Release and Vinyl Edition

Modest Mouse brings an additional treat, releasing the video for 'The World At Large/Stiff Animal Fantasy', co-directed by none other than Isaac Brock of the band, alongside Jason Foster. This music video previously had limited availability on a DualDisc format in the 2000s. The vinyl reissue comes in a unique opaque baby pink and spring green color scheme, accompanied by an alternate album cover, an eight-page booklet, and will include five of the new remixes on the record itself.

The Original and The Ongoing Impact of the Album

Originally released on April 6, 2004, 'Good News For People Who Love Bad News' is remembered fondly for its hit song 'Float On'. The album has had a lasting impact on fans and the music industry, and this anniversary reissue serves as a reminder of Modest Mouse's influential role over the past two decades. The band also looks to the future as they prepare for a US tour with Pixies and Cat Power later in the year.
