Brad Mehldau Debuts 'Fourteen Reveries' at Bay Area Concert

Published February 7, 2024

Brad Mehldau, the esteemed jazz pianist celebrated for his expansive body of work, is set to perform a new solo piece to the delight of Bay Area audiences. Mehldau's musical journey has been marked by a variety of high-profile projects, from critically acclaimed trio albums to notable collaborations with music stalwarts like Pat Metheny, Joshua Redman, and Renée Fleming, as well as his own solo piano compositions.

A New Musical Reflection

On the evening of February 10, concert-goers at Berkeley's Zellerbach Hall will be treated to the Bay Area premiere of Mehldau's latest creation, 'Fourteen Reveries.' This solo endeavor has been commissioned in partnership with Cal Performances, the same entity hosting the evening, and conveys a contemplative look at the personal worlds we build within our minds, distinct from those around us.

A Meditative Musical Experience

'Fourteen Reveries' draws inspiration from the same introspective motivations behind Mehldau's 'Suite: April 2020.' It explores the realm of possibilities that exists within the spaces a composer leaves in a musical score, allowing beauty and new interpretations to emerge. The performance will also include selections from 'Suite: April 2020,' an album Mehldau recorded during the early days of the pandemic.

The concert is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., with ticket prices starting at $42. Enthusiasts unable to attend the Berkeley performance have another chance to catch Mehldau at a sold-out show in Santa Cruz on February 12 at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center.
