Macklemore's Homecoming Concert on 'The BEN Tour'

Published January 25, 2024

During my high school days, Macklemore, also known as Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, was a staple on the airwaves following the release of his album 'The Heist.' Hits like 'Thrift Shop' and 'Can't Hold Us' were everywhere. Over time, as I shifted to streaming music, Macklemore's presence in my playlist diminished.

A Return to the Stage

Everything changed when I got to photograph Macklemore's performance during his 'BEN' world tour in his hometown, Seattle—an opportunity I eagerly embraced. Despite hearing some murmurs about his waning popularity, the sheer number of streams and views his hit tracks still garner points to his lasting influence in music.

The excitement at the Climate Pledge Arena was palpable, with back-to-back sold-out shows. Macklemore's performance was an eclectic mix of his classic hits and newer tracks from his latest album 'BEN,' catering to both long-time fans and newcomers.

More Than a Solo Show

What stood out at the concerts was the diversity in entertainment. Macklemore shared the spotlight with over five artists, including Wanz and Mary Lambert, and featured performances from breakdancers and audience members, underscoring his emphasis on community and collaboration.

Throughout the concert, Macklemore donned Seattle's sports team jerseys and shared personal anecdotes about the city, reinforcing his connection to his roots.

A Lasting Impression

After witnessing his showmanship and the heartfelt tribute to his hometown, I found my appreciation for Macklemore renewed, and just like that, his music has once again found a place in my playlist.
