Kiwi Saxophonist Eliott Allemand Captivates Queenstown with Stirring Coldplay Cover

Published January 15, 2024

In a charming seaside spectacle, 21-year-old Eliott Allemand brought together hundreds of Queenstown's residents and visitors through his melodious saxophone rendition of Coldplay's Viva La Vida. This heartwarming performance unfolded along the resort town's waterfront as the gentle hues of the January 6th sunset painted the sky.

With ideal conditions at play, Allemand, hailing from New Caledonia, found a reciprocative crowd in the warm evening embraced by a mild breeze under a clear sky. It was a 'just right' setting that resonated well with the audience, as Allemand observed how engaged people were with the music rather than their phones, indicating the universal appeal of his performance.

Queenstown, now his home after relocating at the tender age of 11, has witnessed Allemand's musical journey from a 14-year-old busker to the accomplished artist he is today. This particular evening marked his most memorable busking experience.

Allemand's musical achievements aren't just confined to street performances. His talents span across the saxophone, guitar, drums, and piano, earning him recognition in high school bands and prestigious awards at New Zealand jazz festivals. His dedication and passion for music led to an acceptance and scholarship at the esteemed Berklee College of Music, positioning him among alumni such as John Mayer and Quincy Jones. With his graduation approaching in May, Allemand's skills have already taken him globally, with gigs from Hong Kong to France.

Beyond his individual accolades, Allemand has also shone in the international arena, proudly representing New Zealand at the World Championships of Performing Arts, where he secured five gold medals and contributed to four team awards.

A Glimpse into the Future

Despite his international opportunities, Allemand remains rooted in his love for sharing music on a personal level. His experiences at Berklee and the connections he has fostered open pathways to a future that holds the promise of broader musical endeavors and an unwavering commitment to his craft.
