Diverse Musical Acts Set to Perform at Chico State

Published February 28, 2024

Chico State is gearing up for a series of musical events, each offering a unique auditory experience for attendees, showcasing a variety of styles from a cappella to bolero, and classical piano.

Voctave: Harmonic A Cappella

Kicking off the musical lineup is the central Florida-based a cappella group Voctave, performing tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Laxson Auditorium. Since their formation in 2015 by Jamey Ray, the 11-member act has captivated audiences worldwide and collaborated with notable artists. With an impressive discography of eight albums, Voctave's music is widely available across multiple platforms. Seat reservations for their performance range from $38 to $55, although students can enjoy a special ticket price of $15.

Touch of Nostalgia with Tres Souls and Grupo Bella

Bringing a nostalgic rhythm to the stage, Tres Souls and Grupo Bella will be performing on Friday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m., again at the Laxson Auditorium. Tickets are priced at $45, with a $15 rate available to Chico State students. The Los Angeles-based ensemble, featuring Rocio Mendoza, Roberto Carlos, and Jesus Martinez, reimagines the romantic bolero genre, reminiscing sounds from the 1940s to 1960s—a throwback to the Golden Era of Mexican Cinema.

Classically Captivating: Pianist Wyona Wang

The third act in this diverse concert series is the award-winning pianist Wyona Wang, taking the stage on Sunday, April 21 at 2 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Arts and Humanities Building at Chico State. Having clinched the first prize in the 2018 Concert Artists Guild International Competition and receiving the 2019 Salon de Virtuosi's 'Charlotte White' Career Grant, Wang is an internationally celebrated artist performing across the globe. Tickets to witness her classical flair are available for $39, with a student ticket price of just $15.
