700 Unique 7" Records Unite Music and Art for War Child UK Charity

Published February 27, 2024

In an extraordinary show of creativity and philanthropy, 700 artists, designers, and creatives have come together to support the esteemed War Child UK charity. Their collaborative effort has resulted in the production of 700 distinctive 7" vinyl records, all designed to be one-of-a-kind pieces of art. These special records are set to go on public display and to be auctioned for a good cause, marking the return of the acclaimed Secret 7” initiative, which previously ran from 2012 to 2020 and raised over $600,000 for charity causes during its initial run.

Exhibition and Auction Details

The records will be showcased at the NOW Gallery in London starting from March 2 to March 17, 2024, allowing visitors to appreciate the diverse range of sleeve artwork up close. Following the exhibition, the unique records will be auctioned on Peggy, an online platform. From March 2nd to the 17th, 2024, art enthusiasts and collectors will have the opportunity to bid on these exclusive items through a digital auction. Bidders can prepare for the auction by registering on the Peggy app and following Secret 7”. In the twist that lies at the heart of the Secret 7” concept, the identities of the sleeve artists will be unveiled only after the auction has concluded and the sleeves have been purchased.

Contributors and Tracks

The initiative has managed to gather impressive contributions from globally renowned musicians and artists. The seven iconic musicians who have offered tracks include the likes of Paul McCartney, The Chemical Brothers featuring Beck, and other legends such as The Specials and Siouxsie & The Banshees. Respected visual artists and designers have contributed to the sleeve artwork, with notable names including Tacita Dean and Sir Paul Smith amongst the ranks of contributors. The artwork is as diverse as the music, with each creator bringing their own unique style and vision to the songs, which include Aurora’s 'A Different Kind of Human' and Hozier's 'Swan Upon Leda'.

The proceeds from the Secret 7” auction are earmarked for the incredible work being carried out by War Child UK. The charity is dedicated to providing a safer future for children affected by war, offering assistance such as safe spaces to play and learn, psychological support, and education. Their continued efforts are vital in helping to recover from the impacts of conflict, and the funds raised through this auction will bolster their important work.
