Published February 11, 2024

The six-member band named Low Class Jazz is scheduled to showcase their talents at the 'Wine and Jazz' event on February 18, from 3 to 5 p.m., held at the Morris Graves Museum of Art located at 636 F Street in Eureka. The ensemble is composed of musicians with strong ties to the local jazz community, including Jo Kuzelka on vocals, Dan Aldag playing trombone, Andrew Henderson on the trumpet, Danny Gaon on bass, Ben Aldag on drums, and Matt Seno at the piano.

Musician Backgrounds

Several members have connections to Cal Poly Humboldt's jazz program, where Dan Aldag serves as the director of the Jazz Orchestra. This connection includes students like Henderson, Gaon, and Kuzelka, whose musical paths first crossed there. Kuzelka has moved on to direct music at St. Bernard’s Academy, Henderson is gaining further qualifications in music education at Cal Poly Humboldt, and Gaon is active in local bands. Drummer Ben Aldag, the son of Dan Aldag, was also a student of Kuzelka. Piano player Matt Seno has left his musical mark since arriving in the area and is a notable figure in Humboldt County's jazz circles.

The Performance

Low Class Jazz's repertoire leans on jazz standards, mixing the familiar with the uniquely arranged, and is characterized by its robust vocal performances and outstanding improvisational skills. Audience members are invited to get moving to the music during the event.

To attend the 'Wine and Jazz' event featuring Low Class Jazz, adults can gain admission for $5. Entry fees are reduced to $2 for seniors (65 and over), military veterans, and students with ID.
