Historic Downtown Churches Host New Year's Eve Musical Celebrations

Published December 26, 2023

Downtown Brockville is set to come alive with the sound of music this New Year's Eve as four historic churches open their doors for a night of concerts suitable for the whole family. The 32nd edition of this cherished local tradition, now known as the New Year's Eve Concerts in Historic Downtown Churches, will begin at 6 p.m. and continue until midnight, offering a range of performances from local musicians of all ages.

Line-up of Varied Musical Acts

The evening showcases a dozen acts across ten concerts, leading to a grand finale at Wall Street United Church. Attendees can enjoy a variety of genres, including jazz, rock, pop, and classical, provided by a mix of returning artists and fresh faces. The event will include stand-out performances for children, with showcases such as Family Focus, presenting youth performances and an appearance by Cinderella, ensuring that the younger audience is equally entertained.

Community and Charity at the Heart

While admission to each concert is free, the audience is encouraged to give freewill offerings, which will be directed to charities chosen by the churches. The New Year's concerts have been an avenue for raising significant funds for charity over three decades. This year also marks a return to the warmth of live performances following an online pivot during the pandemic, much to the delight of organizers who have noted the global reach and appreciation for these streamed events in years past.

Festive Ambiance and Local Delights

The concerts not only feature impressive musical line-ups but also offer a café inside Wall Street United Church, where homemade treats and warm beverages will be available to enhance the festive experience. The continuity of this event is attributed to the hard work of volunteers and the support of local sponsors, with hopes of expanding in future years.

Organizers express their excitement, emphasizing the unique atmosphere of the concerts in these serene and beautiful church settings—a sentiment they believe keeps people returning year after year to ring in the new year.
