UK Musicians Welcomed to Spectacular Christmas Wind Orchestra and Choir Event

Published November 28, 2023

UK musicians have a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents and spread holiday cheer as they are called to participate in the Big Christmas Wind Orchestra and Choir. This remarkable event is set for an outdoor revelry on December 10th at Coal Drops Yard, nestled in the festive setting of Kings Cross with its Christmas markets and lively surroundings.

Festive Tunes and Joyful Harmony

The musical lineup promises to imbue the winter air with the spirit of Christmas, featuring everything from beloved traditional carols such as O Come All Ye Faithful and Hark the Herald Angels Sing, to popular Christmas hits and orchestral gems. Musicians of all skill levels are encouraged to take part as the event is tailored to accommodate various abilities with no mandatory rehearsals or prior experience.

A Tradition of Communal Music Making

Adam Funnell, the event coordinator, describes the event as a cornerstone of the festive period for participating musicians, citing the grandeur of the music and the lack of a long-term commitment as key appeals. Celebrating its 12th year, the Big Christmas Wind Orchestra and Choir has grown impressively from a small gathering to a cohort of over three hundred performers from the UK and beyond. This year's festivities will be conducted by musical director Matthew Hardy and are freely open to musicians and spectators alike.

Joining the Celebration

Interested musicians must register online and will be provided with sheet music prior to the event. Registration is facilitated through the official website, ensuring participants are all set for the starting time of 1pm on December 10th. Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, there are no fees to join in this magnificent celebration of holiday music.

The event not only offers a platform for musical expression but also invites audience members to enjoy the performance and even sing along, making it a truly communal experience.
