Dolly Parton and Bono, the lead singer of U2, while primarily celebrated for their music, are now being recognized for their spoken word prowess. They've been selected as finalists for the 2024 Audie Awards, which is the Audio Publishers Association’s annual event celebrating the top performers in audiobooks and spoken-word entertainment.

In a collaborative narration effort, Parton along with co-writers Holly George-Warren and Rebecca Seaver, delve into her glittering fashion history and the personal stories behind her looks.

U2's Bono narrated his 2022 memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, putting him in contention for the prestigious Audiobook of the Year award. His memoir, which he both wrote and narrated, explores his life and includes intimate insights into U2's iconic music.

Other well-known figures in the running for the 2024 Audie Awards include “Weird” Al Yankovic, Meryl Streep, and Michelle Obama, among others. Obama narrated her book The Light We Carry, a contender in the Business/Personal Development category, while Streep is nominated in two categories for Ann Patchett's Tom Lake. “Weird” Al contributed to Surely You Can't Be Serious: The True Story of Airplane!, a finalist for the Multi-Voiced Performance category.

Past music-related Audie winners include Bob Dylan’s Chronicles: Volume One, Keith Richards’ Life, and Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run. Interestingly, Dolly Parton is also nominated for a Grammy this year and U2 is scheduled to perform during the Grammys event.
