Kacey Musgraves Honors Bob Marley with a “Three Little Birds” Cover for New Biopic Soundtrack

Published January 26, 2024

Kacey Musgraves, a country music star since the late 1990s, didn't let her 7th place finish on Nashville Star dampen her ambition. Her relentless pursuit and contributions to country music have earned her no less than six Grammy Awards. She now steps into the realm of reggae by covering Bob Marley's beloved song “Three Little Birds,” as a tribute to the late reggae icon.

Musgraves Celebrates Marley's Legacy

Bob Marley's impact transcended music, encompassing his peaceful beliefs, which, at one point, led to an assassination attempt against him. Despite his tragic death from cancer in 1981, his legacy continued to soar, with his Legend album becoming a reggae cornerstone, and his contributions earning him a Hollywood Walk of Fame star and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The biopic Bob Marley: One Love, set for release on February 14, promises to give an in-depth look at Marley's life and the challenges he overcame.

Soundtrack Supports Marley's Message

The biopic's release is accompanied by a soundtrack, Bob Marley: One Love (Music Inspired by the Film), featuring Kacey Musgraves and other artists like Bloody Civilian and Wizkid. All the covers on this album have been selected from Marley's 1977 album Exodus. Marley's daughter Cedella, in the spirit of her father, expressed pride in spreading his music globally in coordination with the film's release, ensuring attention to the artists selected for the project.

Applause for Kacey's Cover

Musgraves's rendition of “Three Little Birds” was met with acclaim on YouTube, where fans were quick to praise her adaptability and respect for Marley's original work. Many fans felt her cover beautifully complemented the song without detracting from its message, showcasing her unmistakable vocal talent and paying proper homage to Marley's enduring spirit.
