Published March 14, 2024

In a significant celebration of Chicago's iconic Millennium Park, both local hero and award-winning artist Common, as well as the Colombian musical sensation Fruko y sus Tesos, are set to headline the park’s 20th Anniversary Festival. This highly anticipated event is slated to unfold over four days, starting from July 18th and culminating on July 21st.

The Anniversary Kickoff with Latin Flair

The festivities commence with the lively ¡Súbelo! festival, which will feature Fruko y Sus Tesos captivating the crowd at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. Known for their infectious rhythms, Fruko y sus Tesos will honor their 60-year legacy in making the world dance with their exuberant performance.

Star-Studded Lineup

The celebration continues with an array of performances ranging from 'Star Wars and More: the Music of John Williams' by the Grant Park Orchestra, to house music tributes, and cultural showcases. However, the highlight is undoubtedly Common, the Chicago-based singer, rapper, and actor, gracing the stage at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion on July 20th. His show, a unique collaboration with the Grant Park Orchestra conducted by Anthony Parnther, promises to be a standout experience for festival-goers.

Free Concert Experiences with Reservations

Attendees will need to reserve free tickets online for some of these spectacular shows, including the evening concert featuring Common. They are advised to stay tuned for the reservation availability this spring, ensuring they don't miss this incredible blend of music and celebration.

A Finale with Deep Chicago Roots

The festival's conclusion will be marked by the S&S Chicago Experience, a tribute to house music that has deep roots in the city’s cultural history. Curated by notable figures Steve “Silk” Hurley and Shannon “Skip” Say, this event will undoubtedly send the anniversary off with a beat, from 4-7 p.m. at the Pritzker Pavilion.

Cultural Enrichment Beyond the Music

The anniversary festivities are complemented by the return of the Millennium Park Residency Program, featuring diverse cultural presentations from theater to dance to music, spreading out beyond the primary festival dates. These events support the park's role as a hub of artistic diversity and community enrichment.

Millennium Park, a 24.5-acre marvel, has been a centerpiece of Chicago's urban landscape since its opening in 2004. It houses renowned attractions like 'The Bean', Crown Fountain, and the Lurie Garden. As it steps into its 20th year, the park continues its partnership with the City of Chicago and the Grant Park Music Festival to bring free, transformative arts programming to the public.
