Slade's Noddy Holder Defies Odds with Cancer Battle

Published December 28, 2023

Five years ago, Slade's Noddy Holder, famed for the festive classic 'Merry Xmas Everybody', faced a dire prognosis when he was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. He was told he had a mere six months to live. Yet, the celebrated musician has defied these grim expectations through the help of an experimental treatment.

Unexpected Journey of Survival

In a recent reflection on his health journey since the diagnosis in 2017, Noddy Holder spoke about the challenges he faced, including participating in a clinical trial and the intense effects of the treatment. 'It was touch and go,' he admitted, detailing the severe loss of weight and hair during the process. Despite these hardships, a recent scan in December showed stability, offering a resonating note of hope.

Support and Treatment

The treatment, previously limited to individuals under the age of 60, has worked wonders for Holder, now aged 77. Suzan, Noddy's wife, shared the couple's experience in a heartfelt letter, published in a local magazine. They decided to confront the cancer head-on, focusing on togetherness and doing whatever was necessary to fight the disease. Witnessing her husband perform onstage this year deeply moved Suzan, especially considering the initial six-month timeframe they were given.

While the treatment has had a remarkable effect, Suzan emphasized that the term 'cured' is not one used by medical professionals in the context of cancer. Regardless of this, Noddy's spirit remains unbroken, and he continues to entertain and inspire with Slade's perennial holiday hit, which remarkably still charts 50 years after its release.
