Four Poets One Mic Enlivens Egyptian Theatre with Poetry and Film

Published February 27, 2024

The Four Poets One Mic collective brought an engaging performance to the stage of the Egyptian Theatre located at 135 N. Second Street last Thursday.

In an evening that combined poetry and film, audiences were treated to a screening of the film 'Black Power Mixtape: 1967-1975', a historical documentary, offering context and depth to the performances. This event was held in partnership with the NIU Center for Black Studies, illustrating a collaborative effort to celebrate and educate on black history and cultural expression.

Highlighting the performance lineup, poet Chakra Da Kid captivated the crowd with a dynamic hand movement during her set. She performed an unreleased original rap, which resonated with the attendees, who were encouraged to actively participate with cheers and support. Her robust delivery and the call for audience engagement enhanced the atmosphere of the event.

In a moment of gratitude, Lo’, the main performer of Four Poets One Mic, received an unexpected gift—a painting of the collective's logo—from fellow members Chakra Da Kid and Darius Jackson. The painting, a symbol of artistic fellowship and unity, was crafted by Cheyene Hoerr, a professional mixed-media artist.
