On April 24, 2024, the Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall will host a remarkable musical event as former New York Yankees star Bernie Williams trades his baseball glove for a guitar to make his debut with the esteemed New York Philharmonic. Renowned conductor Gustavo Dudamel is set to lead the orchestra in their spring gala that promises an evening of captivating performances.

The illustrious evening will see not only Williams but also Grammy Award-winning rapper Common, known offstage as Lonnie Rashid Lynn, performing for the very first time with the Philharmonic. Since hanging up his jersey, Williams has been recognized for his musical talent as well, releasing guitar albums in 2003 and 2009. At age 55, Williams continues to showcase his multifaceted skills, this time in the esteemed venue of the Philharmonic.

Gustavo Dudamel's Musical Leadership

Gustavo Dudamel, the future music director of the New York Philharmonic, brings his rich experience from leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 2009. Dudamel is anticipated to begin his tenure in New York for the 2026-27 season. Prior to the gala, he will conduct a rehearsal with the student musicians on April 22 and will lead a concert at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts on April 26. Additionally, an open rehearsal is scheduled for the morning of April 24 intended for music educators, the family members of the youth orchestra, and community partners of the orchestra.
