Edmonton Braces for a Weekend of Dark Fantasy and Ninja Skills

Published November 25, 2023

Edmonton's cultural scene is poised for a weekend rich with shadowy performances, athletic prowess, and classic cinema celebration. Curator Josh Languedoc has put together a unique cabaret known as MACABARET, an event under the umbrella of Mile Zero Dance's CONNECTIONS//COLLISIONS series. MACABARET is set to probe into the darker facets of fantasy and desire with a diverse blend of performances. Languedoc notes a unifying theme of 'horror; fantasy; passion; lust; desire; bodily sacrifice for a good life,' as artists naturally gravitated towards these intense concepts in their creative pitches. The multidisciplinary event will showcase talents such as Molly McDermott, Jacqueline Ohm, Lyndsey Daniels, Sara Campos-Silvius, Charlie Peters, Liz Hobbs, Allison Ulan, and DJ ShakiñaRay.

Canadian Ninja League Finals 2023

Edmonton also plays host to the Canadian Ninja League Finals 2023, where athletes from across the nation will compete in challenging obstacle courses that test not just their physical strength but also their problem-solving abilities. Crowning Canada’s Top Ninja Warrior, this event allows spectators to get more than an eyeful; they can take to the Everyday Ninja Course themselves if they choose. This real-life 'Assassin’s Creed' promises to be as thrilling to watch as it is to participate.

King Kong's 90th Anniversary Screening

A highlight for classic film enthusiasts, the iconic 'King Kong' from 1933 will be screened, marking its 90th anniversary. The screening offers more than just a cinematic experience; there will be a Jazz Age costume contest, a mixer with special cocktails, and an after-party at a local spot. Presented by Revival House Entertainment, this event is a tribute to a groundbreaking piece of film history. With these diverse events, the city ensures that there is something intriguing for everyone this weekend in Edmonton.
