Bayside Temperance Hall Hosts Evening of Irish Music

Published March 10, 2024

As the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations draw near, residents and visitors of Bayside will have the chance to immerse themselves in Irish culture with a musical event at the Bayside Temperance Hall. The historic venue will come alive with the sounds of fiddles and folk songs during 'An Evening of Irish Music' on March 15, hosted by Bayside Corners.

A Musical Feast Celebrating Irish Traditions

The evening offers more than just melodies with an assortment of desserts, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, and delectable Irish soda breads crafted by Chris Beresford and Janet Finney Krull. Those looking to partake in the festivities can secure their spots by purchasing tickets for $20. The doors are set to welcome the community at 6:30 p.m., with performances commencing at 7 p.m.

Local Talents and Cherished Tunes

The night will spotlight a variety of folk music from Ireland and the British Isles. Firstly, the band Good Company is slated to charm the audience with their unique renditions of Irish and Scottish jigs, reels, and ballads. Good Company is known for its ensemble of talented musicians playing traditional instruments that evoke the spirit of Celtic lands.

Additionally, the stage will witness a compelling duo performance by local musicians Dominic Romano and Evan Morden. Both have had a lifelong attraction to Celtic music, bringing their own backgrounds and experiences with fiddle tunes to the fore. This event marks a nostalgic return to Temperance Hall for both, where they once fostered their musical skills.

A Venue with a Past, Performing for the Future

The Bayside Temperance Hall, erected in 1882, has been a cornerstone in the community for well over a century, hosting a variety of cultural and educational events. Efforts are underway by Bayside Corners, the local nonprofit now owning the property, to revitalize and transform the hall into a community gem. Their ongoing project has faced challenges, including increased costs due to stormwater drainage issues. This Irish music event not only celebrates local heritage but also contributes to fundraising efforts, with raised funds being matched by a USDA Rural Facilities grant program.
