The 2024 BAFTA Film Awards, held at The Royal Festival Hall, saw Robert Downey Jr and Da'Vine Joy Randolph taking home some of the most coveted awards of the night. Hosted by actor David Tennant, the event was a celebration of cinematic excellence.

Robert Downey Jr's Award-Winning Night

At 58 years old, Downey Jr won Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in the film Oppenheimer. This film, a major force in the awards season, has already clinched four awards and leads with the most nominations. Downey Jr expressed his gratitude toward the film's director Christopher Nolan, producer Emma Thomas and lead actor Cillian Murphy, recognizing the influence British cinema has had on his career.

This remarkable win marks Downey Jr's second BAFTA win, setting a new record for the longest gap between wins - 31 years - beating the previous record held by Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph's Supporting Triumph

In the Best Supporting Actress category, Da'Vine Joy Randolph was victorious for her role in The Holdovers. In her emotional acceptance speech, Randolph highlighted the significance of her journey and the impact of portraying her character. She plays Mary, a school cook, in the film set against the backdrop of a 1970s boarding school.

Other notable wins included the film The Zone of Interest for outstanding British film and original screenplay award for Anatomy Of A Fall.

Amidst the glamour of the star-studded arrivals, with faces like Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, and Florence Pugh adorning the red carpet, the BAFTA Film Awards once again underscored the richness of talent in the film industry.
