T.S.O.L.'s Jack Grisham Reflects on Music Career and Upcoming Festival Performances

Published February 27, 2024

For over four decades, Jack Grisham has been a fixture in the punk scene, most notably as the frontman of the punk band T.S.O.L. (True Sounds of Liberty) from Huntington Beach/Long Beach. T.S.O.L. has recently released a new album titled 'A-Side Graffiti' on February 27, and despite not actively touring, the band is set to perform at two upcoming festivals.

New Album Surprises

The latest record by T.S.O.L. comes with a twist. It’s composed of cover songs and original tracks which the band thought would never be heard by the public. 'A-Side Graffiti' offers an eclectic mix, featuring Grisham's take on 'Sweet Transvestite' from 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' and R&B singer Amerie's '1 Thing', demonstrating his passion for varied musical genres. The band also experimented with a cover of 'Can You Hear Me?' during a period of David Bowie's career admired by Grisham.

Live Performance Plans

Despite claiming to be done with touring, the band is going to hit the stage for two significant events. They are on the bill for Punk in the Park festival happening in San Francisco on May 4 and will play at the No Values Festival in Pomona on June 8. Attendees are excited about the rare chance to witness T.S.O.L. live, which has sparked interest in both the new album and the band’s iconic stage presence.

No More Touring?

Grisham has indicated that the band is stepping back from extensive touring, but they aren't disappearing entirely. They are picking their appearances carefully, and even as Grisham jokes about the frequency of comebacks, it is apparent that the band still enjoys a strong fan base that spans generations.

The frontman also touched upon themes such as politics and his brief foray into the gubernatorial race in 2003, though he chose to keep the focus primarily on the music and performances during the discussion.
