Harry Waters Departs from Roger Waters' Band and Joins Pink Floyd Tribute

Published December 1, 2023

Harry Waters, son of the iconic musician Roger Waters, has been part of his father's touring band for 14 years. However, in a turn of events, he disclosed that he was dismissed from the band by his father in late 2016. The departure from the band was unexpected and left Harry feeling unhappy, especially considering he was not only a band member but also Roger's son.

Transition to Tribute Act

Despite being let go, Harry Waters continues to play the music he grew up with and knows intimately. After his stint with his father's band, he toured with Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, playing the entirety of Pink Floyd's 'Animals' album. Harry's journey with Pink Floyd's music persists as he is set to join the tribute act Brit Floyd for three shows, along with past Pink Floyd collaborators Durga McBroom and Scott Page.

Political Controversy Surrounding Roger Waters

Beyond the band dynamics, Roger Waters has been embroiled in political controversy, facing allegations of anti-Semitism, which he and his son Harry strongly deny. Recently, a court in Chile cleared Roger's concerts to proceed despite attempts to halt them based on these accusations. Similarly, a German court ruled in favor of allowing Roger's Frankfurt show to continue, stating that his performances do not glorify or identify with Nazi racist ideology. Harry defends his father, clarifying that the symbolism used in Roger's shows serves as satire highlighting various evils of the world.

Roger Waters has also faced scrutiny for discussing events in the Middle East. He questioned the legitimacy of an attack by Hamas and discussed the obligations to resist occupation under international law, prompting discussions on the framing of such events. He refuted allegations of anti-Semitism in a documentary and on his website, insisting on his commitment to universal human rights and distinguishing his critique of Israel from sentiments against Judaism.
