Community Music School Marks a Century of Harmonies with Celebratory Concert

Published January 15, 2024

In a significant milestone, the Community Music School (CMS), particularly known for enriching the Elmwood Village for many years, sold its original facility in 2019 to embark on a new chapter. This change saw CMS make a strategic move to the East Side in 2021, where they relocated to the former Lutheran Church Home on East Delavan Avenue, nestled within the Hamlin Park Historic District. This move symbolizes CMS's commitment to reaching out and providing musical education to the underrepresented communities of the city.

Expanding Music Education Programs

CMS offers a diverse selection of music programs ranging from individual sessions and group classes to performance ensembles and music therapy. The recent innovations include the launch of a free children's choir and a community chorus for adults that welcome all without an audition, in addition to a Jazz and Beginner Band Club for children.

Executive Director Jennifer Guillow speaks with pride about these new offerings that allow more students to delve into the world of music. These expansions are in line with CMS's vision to democratize music education and provide equal opportunities for children and adults alike.

Celebrating a Century of Musical Influence

This year is particularly momentous for CMS as it celebrates its 100th year. To honor this remarkable anniversary, a kick-off event is scheduled at The Cave on January 18. Located at 71 Military Road, Buffalo, NY, this venue will host live performances featuring the CMS Community Chorus, the CMS Kids Jazz Club, and the talented CMS faculty.

The centennial celebration will not only showcase musical talent but also offer prize giveaways, a basket raffle, and a cash bar with special cocktails. Doors will open at 6:00 pm and the musical festivities are set to commence at 7:00 pm. Those eager to join in the festivities can procure their tickets and connect with the milestone event.
