Nicki Minaj Declines to Clear Verse for Kanye West’s ‘New Body’

Published December 15, 2023

Rapper Nicki Minaj, known for hits like 'Let Me Calm Down,' is currently immersing herself in the excitement of her fanbase ahead of the release of her anticipated album Pink Friday 2 and an upcoming world tour. Her schedule has been packed with media engagements, and she recently joined streamer Kai Cenat to celebrate her new music in a lively livestream session.

Kanye West Seeks Nicki's Approval

In what could be seen as a strategic move to capitalize on the buzz around Nicki Minaj, Kanye West expressed his intent to include their unreleased track 'New Body,' also featuring Ty Dolla Sign, in his album Vultures. Unfortunately for Kanye, Nicki's response during her latest livestream indicates that she has not consented to clear her verse for the song.

West made an attempt to reach Nicki directly through text, a conversation he subsequently shared on social media, showing her lack of response. He then turned to his social might, tagging her in a post in hopes that their mutual fans would nudge her towards granting permission.

Despite the public plea, when fans inquired during her broadcast, Nicki made it clear she wasn't interested in revisiting the three-year-old track, citing her current focus on her new album. Her reply hinted at moving forward rather than dwelling on past collaborations.

Rumor of Other Uncleared Samples

It seems that Nicki Minaj might not be the only artist from whom Kanye is awaiting clearance. Gossip suggests that the Backstreet Boys' iconic hit 'Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)' has been sampled on West's album without their approval as well. This casts a shadow on the releases of not only 'New Body' but potentially other parts of the album.
