Devante Collins: On the Verge of Hip-Hop Stardom

Published March 1, 2024

Once a high school graduate from Flagler Palm Coast High School in 2015, Devante Collins, known professionally as Devante, The Artist, is fiercely chasing his dream to become a recognized name in hip-hop. Bursting with determination, Devante's journey has taken him from a musical upbringing in Palm Coast, fueled by his mother's diverse taste in music, to various cities including Los Angeles, Columbus, Ohio, and Philadelphia, as he hones his skills as an artist, writer, and producer.

Relentless Pursuit

In a chilly garage in Columbus years ago, Devante found himself using anything he could get his hands on to produce music. With a DIY spirit, he created a makeshift recording studio with a microphone gifted by a friend, household items, and construction bricks. Despite those humble beginnings, Devante was committed to making sounds that would resonate with audiences far and wide.

Building a Following

As Devante transitioned from the Midwest to Philadelphia, he set himself a challenge to release a song every week on SoundCloud. This disciplined approach not only sharpened his craft but also began to attract a dedicated fan base. His online presence grew steadily as more and more listeners tuned in to his rhythmic beats and insightful lyrics.

A Dream In Motion

Christian Sassani, a friend and manager, sees Devante as a multi-talented artist with all the tools for success: writing, rapping, and producing. Meanwhile, Devante himself has never considered having a backup plan; music has been his sole focus, a passion encouraged by his mother from a young age.

Devante's path has been anything but linear. In Los Angeles, he sought to make connections in the industry, often lending his production skills to others rather than promoting his own work. He learned valuable lessons from every experience and continued to create music irrespective of his circumstances—whether sneaking into the Hollywood School of Performing Arts to record or co-owning a coffee shop in Philadelphia.

Rising Momentum

Devante's perseverance started paying dividends around 2019, as putting out consistent work began to show results. His collaborations have extended to industry notables like Whey Cooler and a recent project with Cam'Ron. Now back in Florida, Devante looks forward to a performance at a Justice for Hip Hop festival in Jacksonville, seeing it as another step closer to his dream.

Embracing the stage, Devante feels alive performing for an audience. His ambition is not only to make it big but also to give back to the community and support upcoming artists. In five years, he hopes to continue honing his artistry, writing songs that stand the test of time.
