Published February 24, 2024

Linkin Park has unveiled a new track featuring the voice of their beloved former lead singer, Chester Bennington, who tragically died by suicide in 2017 at the age of 41. The song, titled 'Friendly Fire', is a posthumous release that showcases Chester’s distinct vocals, serving as a poignant reminder of his talent and legacy.

Posthumous Release Breathes New Life

The unreleased song 'Friendly Fire' comes from the band's sessions for their 2017 album, 'One More Light', and will appear on their forthcoming greatest hits album, ‘Papercuts’, which is slated for release on April 12. This new song debuted with a music video and adds to the band's rich catalog of music.

A Delicate Selection for 'Papercuts'

Linkin Park's lead guitarist, Brad Delson, expressed his admiration for 'Friendly Fire', calling it a favorite from the 'One More Light' sessions. The decision to include the track on the greatest hits album came after realizing its potent storytelling and vocal power. Mike Shinoda, co-founder and producer, found joy in curating the 'Papercuts' tracklist, which features hits spanning the band's entire career, including the latest addition, 'Friendly Fire'.

Since the death of Bennington, Linkin Park has been largely inactive, with the exception of a tribute concert in 2017 and the release of the song 'Lost' in 2023. The release of 'Friendly Fire' and the upcoming greatest hits album marks a significant and emotional milestone for the band and their fans.
